A literary giant has died at the age of 101. Lawrence Ferlinghetti, a world-renowned Beat poet and proprietor of the popular City Lights Booksellers and Publishers in San Francisco (established in 1953), passed away on February 22 leaving many grieving fans and admirers throughout the world. He is heralded as being instrumental in the creation of the Beat movement along with Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, William S. Burroughs and many others. Ferlinghetti is undoubtedly best known for his book of poems entitled "A Coney Island of the Mind" with over a million copies in print as well as translations in more than a dozen languages.
