Did you know? The American football team the Baltimore Ravens are named after and in honor of writer Edgar Allan Poe’s classic and celebrated narrative poem, “The Raven’. Poe was a resident of Baltimore, Maryland from 1831 to 1835. The poem was initially published in the New York Evening Mirror on January of 1845. Due to ambiguous and virtually unenforceable intellectual property laws at the time, the masterpiece did not bring him any notable financial success. The Baltimore Ravens represent the only example of a professional sports team being named in tribute to a work of literature.
