Eyvind Earle (1916-2000) was a renowned American artist most recognized as the premier background illustrator for many of Walt Disney’s animated films in the 1950’s. Many pieces of this master’s iconic work are on display throughout the world in museums and gallery collections, among them the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Walt Disney enlisted Earle to create the background designs for the film Sleeping Beauty, including the film’s castle and forest scenes. Earle, a legendary perfectionist, painstakingly spent up to ten days painting each background. The iconic film, released in 1959, is still ranked by critics and fans as one of the most artistically distinct and impressive films ever produced by the Disney Studios.
