Picture
What MLB National League All-Star held the record for stolen bases (938) until Rickey Henderson came along and surpassed it in 1991? If you guessed Lou Brock, you are correct! Born June 18,1939 in El Dorado, Arkansas to a family of sharecroppers, left fielder Lou Brock was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985, his first year of eligibility, Lou played a total of 19 MLB seasons, 16 of those seasons as a St. Louis Cardinal. Lou became the first player ever to steal 50 bases and hit 20 home runs in the same season! After his retirement from baseball, Lou became a popular TV Broadcaster for the Cardinals. Sadly, Lou passed away on September 6, 2020.
