Did you know? Muhammad Ali was born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr. on January 17, 1942. After joining the Nation of Islam in 1964, he officially changed his name to Muhammad Ali. Muhammad picked up many nicknames throughout his illustrious career including The Greatest, The Champ, The Louisville Lip and just Ali. The 6 foot 3 inch Olympic (1960 Summer Olympics in Rome) gold medal winner was named “Sportsman of the Century” by Sports Illustrated in 1999 and “Sports Personality of the Century” by the BBC. Sadly, he passed away on June 3, 2016 in Scottsdale, AZ as a result of complications relating to Parkinson’s syndrome. His boxing career record? Wins 56, Wins by KO 37, Losses 5. Muhammed Ali is considered by many to be the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time.
