Vacheron Constantin “Do better if possible and that is always possible”

In 1755, the oldest of the Luxury Watch Holy Trinity brands was founded in Geneva by independent watchmaker, Jean-Marc Vacheron. As did many early watch companies, Vacheron began working primarily on building and producing clocks and pocket watches. In 1810, Jacques Barthelemy Vacheron took over the family business. In 1819, he forged a partnership with Francois Constantin. The duo’s focus and determination produced positive results and by the 1830’s they were opening sales outlets worldwide. Constantin, a shrewd businessman, had an uncanny knack for locating lucrative, new markets. As a result of his indefatigable travel for over three decades, the company rapidly gained presence and prestige in the market. Vacheron and Constantin were always striving for perfection and constant improvement. An early business letter, sent by Constantin to Vacheron in 1819, contained the inspirational phrase, “Do better if possible and that is always possible.”  The immortal words would soon become and remain the official company motto.
